Thanksgiving weekend this year was such a pleasant combination of busy and relaxing this year. The best part was getting to spend so much time with family. We drove across the mountains, to Wenatchee, where my parents live, and where we ate too much delicious food. The mountains were getting a lot of snow so we were concerned about not being able to get there. I had a back-up Thanksgiving meal planned- just in case. We made it over just fine. The drive back was a little more adventurous. There was a whole lot more snow, and there were cars all over the sides of the road putting on chains. My car my not be the coolest car around (it's a station wagon) but I sure love it for times like these. It gets through anything.
The next day we cooked our back-up turkey dinner and feasted again. Grace had a dress rehearsal for Nutcracker, and afterward, we went to see the Muppet movie. I haven't laughed that much at a movie in a long time. I loved it.
After that, it was only Saturday. Long weekends are the best! Grace had her opening Nutcracker show and Derek and Trent went to the Apple Cup to watch some football. This was Trent's first football game. My husband's grandpa used to play, and later coach for the Huskies. The tickets that Derek and Trent got to use have been in the family for over 50 years now. They were sitting in the old people section. I was kind of happy about that. The old people behave a little better than some of the younger fans. I didn't want my son to learn any ugly new words.
These funny Nutcracker statues are all over the city around Christmastime. This is the Jimmy Hendrix nutcracker. He was from Tacoma. It's kind of blurry, but I still love this picture, taken near the Space Needle. Sunday was church and another Nutcracker show for Grace. Derek, Trent, and I did some shopping downtown. Not Christmas shopping, emergency clothes shopping, for my boy, who just keeps growing and growing. I'm happy that I didn't buy very many back to school clothes for him in September- because those ones are already too small! The picture below is from last year's Nutcracker. I never showed it here before, because I didn't get it until after Christmas. I probably won't get to show you this year's picture until after Christmas either. She's calvary this year. I haven't even seen her in costume yet, because I haven't been to a show yet. Parents are not allowed backstage, and cameras aren't allowed anywhere in the theater- except the lobby. So I will just have to wait. This picture shows her as a servant. We don't go to every show she's in. We still have to pay for tickets, so I usually wait at a nearby coffee shop while she's performing. I'm guessing this is Trent's last Santa picture. He will probably will not want to sit on Santa's lap next year. It's a scanned image because my camera was not allowed. I don't even know how to find a Santa that doesn't require the purchase of a photo package in exchange for sitting on his lap anymore. Oh well. I really wanted this picture.
