New life.....

Just a quick hello, as I'm still sitting here in my bathrobe at an embarrassingly late hour of the morning, and really must get going on my day.  I hope all is well with you.   I know that all is very well with my friend Sarah this morning...such happy news!  She had her baby girl last night, so I just want to congratulate her and say welcome to this sweet little addition to her family.  Though I highly doubt that she's doing much blog reading right now. ; )

With yesterday being the first day of Lent, I was looking for a meaningful way to set these next forty days apart.  As Protestants, my family doesn't really have any traditions for Lent, as it's not so commonly observed in our faith.  The past few years, I've felt more of a need to change this.  I was grateful to find a beautiful devotional called The Trail to the Tree at Ann Voskamp's blog yesterday, which she graciously offered for free.  Along with the daily devotions that lead up to Easter, are printable ornaments for an Easter tree, which are classical paintings depicting the stories that my family will be reading together.  So far we only have two on the tree, but by Easter it will be full.

I've also hung a few of my felt eggs, which symbolize new life.  I wanted to show you my favorite one, below, which was made by my friend, Kristen, one of those dear friends that I've met through blogging.  She made it!

I also have my eye on some other really cute eggs that I want to give to my kids this year.  Check these out!  I know that they would look adorable hanging on the tree too.

How lovely. Lent is a wonderful time and I would be tempted to observe it myself but being in the south our seasons are inverted and it seems wrong to be going through Lent at the end of summer as the harvests are all coming in. Lent loses so much of its meaning when you apply it to the wrong season of nature.

By the way, I am sitting here reading this post in my dressing gown.

Oh!! How delighted I am to find that you've highlighted the little felt egg! That makes me so happy. I have another tradition I think you might enjoy for Lent (Lent isn't part of my cultural celebration of Easter, either). A friend of mine posts the loveliest personal essays, one a day, all through Lent every year. She is very, very good - and always wakens my heart.

Congratulations to Sarah, who always writes kind and intelligent things. May the new life she holds be joyful!
