First day of summer

Happy first day of summer! Just yesterday we were running the heater in the house to keep warm and the gray skies were becoming increasingly unwelcome. This morning, I woke up before six with the sun shining through the windows. I'm going to need to start waking up around six regularly, or I'll never get to run anymore. My routine used to be to go for a run after Trent left for school, but that's all changing now. Trent's school gets out next Monday! The private schools are done for the year and I'm already taking care of a couple of Trent's friends who are on summer vacation. The first day of summer, a beautiful day, some boys who just want to play, an unreasonably long school year....it all adds up to a good enough excuse for me to call Trent's school and keep him home for the day.
So what are we going to do today? I can tell you one thing, we won't be inside! Last summer, the kids and I set out on a mission to find the best parks in the area. This summer, we're doing it again. The picture below was taken at Wilburton Hill park in Bellevue. It's the only Eastside park I know of that has a zip line. They loved it.

today is SO perfect!! thank goodness. I love that picture of the park. welcome summer - my kids are done as of today :)
I LOVED your park posts last year and I am looking forward to more! :) I hope you have fantastic weather all summer. I have been getting up at 4:45am to go for a run with a friend and there have been mornings where we have had to wear winter gear! It's crazy!
I think hooky and a trip to the park with friends is a great way to kick off the summer. Good for you for keeping him home -- I can't believe schools are still in session there! (Although we are still homeschooling -- albeit very lightly; still, I don't have much room to talk, do I?)
Fun!! We finally have a zipline in our city. Chris and I were even talking about doing it in the morning. Thanks for the reminder!
Thank you ladies, for your sweet comments. : )
I don't know why I've never been as fond of parks as an adult as I was as a child. I think it has to do with the restroom situation - not enough of them and too many without toilet paper, I guess. But you find wonderful ones. I don't know what kind of parks we have here, because they were mostly grass, trees and basic play equipment when my kids were little - and my yard, convenient to bathrooms, faucets and telephones - had all that already. I love what you find.
