Japanese Garden

Inside the University of Washington's arboretum is a beautiful Japanese garden that we visited on Saturday.  Except for the first picture, all photo credits go to my son Trent.

My husband and I both agreed that while this garden was quite beautiful, we prefer the Japanese garden inside the Bellevue Botanical Gardens.  Not only is it bigger (and equally lovely) but there is no fee to visit.  We also both agreed that our ideal garden for our own home would be in the Japanese style.  If you could design your ideal garden, what style would you choose?

You always find the most lovely places. My ideal garden would be wild and tangled, but really what I *ought* to have as my ideal is a garden which produces vegetables and fruit.

I plant cottage style gardens -- probably because they go best with my house. Your post inspired me to do some digging and look at other styles of gardens. After a few searches I can definitely say my ideal garden would be a Balinese style garden. Lush, tropical greens, small ponds, statues and beautiful little spaces to meditate. I still love my little kitchen herb garden though. I might tuck one or two herb planters into my Balinese paradise, just to be cheeky. ;-)

Sarah- Thank you. : ) I love wild and tangled gardens too, with lots of pink roses climnbing all over the place!

Tara- I had to look up some photos of the Balinese style of gardens. They're beautiful! I like all the tropical plants.

I think cottage style, if I paid any attention at all. I will post some pictures one day - things I took in Sisters of a tiny yard made into the most magical wilderness garden ever -

But Dawn - Trent's pictures are WONDERFUL. He's got an eye for composition!! He framed things beautifully - even got in close. There's talent there.
